The Erupter™ was born from a simple but demanding goal: build the perfect classic fuzz. Not just one that looks the part or checks the vintage circuit boxes, but one that genuinely sounds like the fuzz tone you've been hearing in your head — overloaded yet refined, full-force yet controlled, with crushing lows, a smooth top end, and an input responsive across the full range of your guitar's volume control without losing low end in the process.

To get there, EarthQuaker's designer spent nearly two years swapping transistors, measuring resistors, experimenting with every type and value of capacitor available, and applying every trick accumulated over a career of circuit design. The result is deceptively simple on the outside — just one knob — and carefully considered on the inside, where every single component was chosen for its specific contribution to the tone.

The Erupter also solves one of the classic fuzz circuit's biggest limitations: signal chain placement. Thanks to a buffered front end using transformer-based pickup simulation, the Erupter can be placed anywhere in your signal chain — before or after a wah pedal, buffers, or any other effect — without the input-loading problems that plague traditional fuzz circuits. Key Features

The Bias Control — One Knob, Endless Character The Erupter strips the controls down to the one that matters most: Bias. Volume and fuzz are set internally at maximum, delivering the thickest fuzz tone and a slight output boost that pushes the full frequency range of your guitar out front when you kick it on. The Bias knob then gives you full control over the character of the fuzz. A custom center-detent pot — designed specifically for the Erupter's required resistance value — gives a satisfying click at noon, indicating the pedal is perfectly biased for the ideal fuzz tone. Turn counterclockwise for a colder, more gated, lower-output fuzz. Turn clockwise for a hotter, cleaner, more refined fuzz with increased output level.

Transformer-Based Pickup Simulation Most classic fuzz circuits are notoriously finicky about signal chain placement — put them after a buffer or a wah and the tone falls apart. The Erupter solves this with a buffered front end using transformer-based pickup simulation, delivering a stronger input signal with tighter lows and stronger highs while allowing placement anywhere in the chain without the usual compatibility issues. This same feature also dramatically expands the guitar's volume knob cleanup range, giving you a wide palette of tones across a single dial.

Hand-Matched, NOS Low-Gain Silicon Transistors The transistors in the Erupter are NOS (New Old Stock), hand-matched, low-gain silicon devices selected specifically for temperature stability and predictable operation under all conditions. EarthQuaker tested rare germanium transistors and countless silicon alternatives during development — these are what won. They're the foundation of the Erupter's well-rounded, defined fuzz tone with just enough pummeling intensity.

Premium Components Throughout The Erupter uses new production 5% ½-watt carbon composition resistors, metallized polyester film capacitors, and Sprague and BC electrolytic capacitors. Every component type and value was tested during the two-year development process — from 1% metal film resistors to expensive NOS paper-in-oil capacitors. What ended up inside is what sounded best, full stop.

True Bypass with Electronic Relay Switching The Erupter is true bypass and uses electronic relay-based switching for clean, reliable signal switching with no tone coloration when the effect is off. Note: audio will not pass without power due to the relay-based design.
