The PRS Silver Sky, crafted by Paul Reed Smith to meet John Mayer's specifications, embodies a vintage aesthetic while featuring a distinctive cutaway scoop that enhances its visual appeal. The design incorporates a neck carve, scale length, and fingerboard radius inspired by Mayer's early 1960s guitars, yet it is equipped with a modified PRS-style headstock and locking tuners, ensuring its relevance in the modern era. When paired with a tube amplifier, the guitar's single-coil pickups produce bright, musical tones with remarkable clarity. Additionally, the Silver Sky is equipped with a bone nut, a molded metal jack plate, redesigned knobs, custom fret wire, and PRS's double-action truss rod.
The neck of the Silver Sky is designed in homage to the vintage instruments cherished by John Mayer. It features a fingerboard equipped with 22 custom-sized frets, a scale length of 25.5 inches, and a radius of 7.25 inches.
