Sadowsky MetroExpress Vintage J-J Fretless Bass - High Polish Black
Slide into smooth, singing tone with the Sadowsky MetroExpress Vintage J-J Fretless Bass, in stock at No Limit Guitar Co in Idaho Falls. This fretless electric bass pairs Sadowsky’s renowned active preamp with a lined pau ferro fingerboard for expressive, vocal-like phrasing. Fret lines help with pitch accuracy, making it a great first fretless or a reliable gigging tool for experienced players.
Product Overview
The body is lightweight okoume shaped in Sadowsky’s familiar doublecut outline and finished in deep, high-polish black. Chrome hardware and a vintage-style pickguard complete the classic look. This bass weighs 8.8 lbs.
A bolt-on roasted maple neck with a hand-rubbed oil finish stays stable and comfortable across all positions. The fretless pau ferro (morado) fingerboard has inlaid lines to guide your intonation, a 12" radius, and a 34" scale. Pau ferro’s dense, smooth surface supports the warm “mwah” that makes fretless bass so distinctive.
Two Sadowsky shielded J-style single-coils give you classic growl, and they cancel hum when blended together. The 2-band Sadowsky preamp boosts lows and highs, and a push-pull knob lets you drop into passive mode anytime. Sadowsky’s Just-A-Nut and quick-release bridge make setup tweaks and string changes simple.
Ideal For
- Jazz, fusion, and singer-songwriter bassists who want expressive fretless glide and sustain
- Players making the jump to their first fretless bass with lined fingerboard guidance
- Session musicians needing a quiet, hum-canceling fretless for clean studio tracks
- Worship and pit bassists who want warm, singing tone that blends with ensembles
- Bassists comparing the best fretless J-style bass with active electronics
Key Features
Lined Pau Ferro Fretless Fingerboard
Fret lines provide visual reference for accurate pitch, while the smooth pau ferro surface encourages slides and vibrato. The result is a fretless that feels approachable without losing its character.
Sadowsky Active/Passive Preamp
The 2-band Sadowsky preamp adds punch and clarity with bass and treble boost. Pull the knob for a straight passive signal when you want vintage simplicity.
Shielded J-Style Pickup Pair
Sadowsky’s single-coil J pickups capture the growl and articulation of a classic J-bass. Shielding and hum-canceling operation keep noise out of your signal chain.
Roasted Maple Neck
Roasting gives maple greater resistance to humidity and temperature shifts. The oil finish feels natural and fast for smooth shifts up the neck.
Adjustable Just-A-Nut and Quick-Release Bridge
Dial in nut height with a simple screw adjustment. The quick-release bridge streamlines string changes for faster maintenance between gigs.
